A new business recently opened in Hayneville to serve the floral needs of all the citizens of Lowndes County.
Named Zett’s Flowers and Things, the business was started by County Commissioner Marzett Thomas in the same building as Wright Tax Service.
“I love doing flowers,” said Thomas. “It gives me a chance to think while I work.”
The store opened in time for Mother’s Day and has seen about 30 customers since its creation on May 13.
The store is open Mon.-Sat., 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., nine months of the year, when returns are not being filed during tax season.
“I thought it would be a very good investment for Lowndes County,” said Thomas. “This will keep people from driving out of town for what they need and keep money in the county.”
Zett’s provides artificial and live floral arrangements, vases, gift baskets, candles and balloons for any occasion and delivers wherever they are needed, according to Thomas.
Thomas spends lot of time, care and patience making the arrangements specific to her customer’s needs.
Everything is made from scratch, including giant bows, which require “a little body English.”
“No project is complete until it leaves the shop,” said Thomas. “Whatever the occasion may be, I am here to help you.”
To avoid scheduling conflicts between church, County Commission meetings and her job as a supervising manager at the Flying J, Thomas’ assistant, Bianca McGhee, helps run the store’s day-to-day operations.
Thomas said she hopes Zett’s will be able to host community-wide events and even help sponsor graduating students and public activities in Lowndes County.
Zett’s will be holding their Grand Opening June 26 with a reception and contests for people to win prizes.
