From Staff Reports
The Calhoun Tigers traveled to neighboring Dallas County to face the Keith Bears on Friday night, and Keith won that matchup 32-0.
Every player on Keith’s team had field time, especially in the second half when many of the team’s sophomores had an opportunity to play.
“We have to give them the opportunity to make those [beginner] mistakes,” said Harry Crum, Keith head coach.
The five seniors cannot carry the team, so Crum said he wants his other students to gain experience now to make the team stronger later in the season.
Martavius Harris scored the first touchdown on a 12-yard counter play to end the first quarter 0-6.
In the second quarter, Rodney Ellis scored the second touchdown and Cleveland Jones scored the third touchdown to end the quarter 0-25.
Raheem Velazquez scored the final 6-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to end the game at 0-32.
Jeremy Crum threw two touchdown passes and Cleveland Jones caught both of these 15 and 25-yard passes.
Key defensive players were Michael Giles, five tackles; Eric Tolbert, six tackles, two of which were quarterback sacks; Jeremy Crum, seven tackles; Bobby Barnes, 9 tackles; Lavarosis Robinson, five tackles and Issac Voglin, four tackles.
Damarquis Lumpkin kicked the extra point after the third and fourth touchdown.
Next week the Calhoun Tigers take on Zion Chapel.
