In a helmet-busting hard-fought contest the Wilcox-Central Eagles (2-3) out lasted the Calhoun Tigers (1-4) 34-32 in overtime on Friday night in Letohatchee.
While the Tigers led the Jaguars into the fourth quarter they could not hold the lead.
“Our guys played in spots the whole night,” said Tigers Coach James Bibb. “Our offense was just not clicking well.”
The Tigers scored first on a 13-yard romp by quarterback Devel Goldsmith against an aggressive Jaguar defense.
Also scoring for the Tigers was wide-out Jamine Jordan on a miraculous 40-yard interception during the action.
However, it was junior Trevontae Hardy who broke out against the Jaguar defense in the third quarter with three touchdown runs for the Tigers.
As the buzzer sounded sending the game into overtime, the Tigers saw themselves in a 20-20 tie against Wilcox-Central.
A Jaguar’s two-point conversion after tying the game in overtime sealed the victory for Wilcox.
Tigers running back Jonterrence McCray scored the final point for Calhoun in overtime.
Bibb said the team will be focusing on tackling and blocking drill in practice next week in preparation for their game against Goshen. The Tigers will face Goshen in the Eagles’ territory.
