Central-Hayneville’s Lions (0-5) lost to the Isabella Mustangs (3-3) on Friday in a 48-12 finish.
Senior Jabril Blocton scored a touchdown on an impressive 40-yard run against the Isabella defense
“In spite of the ordeal we had, the guys came out with a great attitude and were ready to play,” said Coach Tito Baker. “We were able to move the ball up and down the field, in spite of some trouble with penalties.”
TJ Saffold put some additional points on the board with a 30-yard run touchdown for the Lions.
Baker said he feels confident about the Lions’ ability to move the ball up and down the field, but is working to do a better job by the offensive line to buy their quarterback some more time to throw the ball.
This week, Central will face-off against Thorsby (5-1) on the Rebels’ territory Oct. 8.
The Lions are working to incorporate in blitzes into their game and are putting a lot of emphasis on stopping runs and making the opposition’s offense pass more.
Central’s strength offensively is their passing game and Baker said they are trying to make a better connection with the Lions’ quarterback and receivers.
“We are trying to do a better job of running the proper routes and make sure the quarterback and receivers demonstrate better timing with each other,” said Baker.
Thorsby was thwarted by American Christian Academy by a 22-point margin in their last game.
