Central-Hayneville’s Lions (0-7) were outmatched 69-12 Friday night in gridiron action against American Christian Academy (7-1) in Tuscaloosa.
The Lions played a hard fought game and were able to see some key players make their way to the forefront.
Wide-out Jabril Blocton, recognized by Central’s coaches for his speed, showed what he’s capable of if given the chance.
Blocton slammed the Patriots’ defense scoring a Lions touchdown on a 68-yard pass from junior quarterback Tracy Tillman.
The much talked about TJ Saffold set himself up in the third quarter with a 15-yard carry against American Christian.
In the shotgun formation, Saffold crept into Patriots’ territory with a short carry for a touchdown.
“The guys performed well,” said Lions Coach Keith Scissum. “However, we still have a lot of work to do.”
The Lions take on Billingsley for the first time next week on the Bears’ territory.
Central will return to practice to strengthen their offensive blocking skills and hone their passing precision to the Lions’ key wide-outs.
The team will also see key players Rod McReynolds and Blocton step up in practice to demonstrate their effectiveness tackling as they did against American Christian.
“We saw these two guys step up with some real intensity Friday,” said Scissum. “We’re hoping they can help in drawing that same intensity from the other guys.”
