Victoria Jiles, a nursing student from Letohatchee and employee of Baptist South Medical Center in Montgomery, decided she wanted to do a breast cancer awareness event for Lowndes County.
This Saturday, Oct. 20 at Lowndes County Middle School in Fort Deposit beginning at 12 noon, she will help hold the first annual 5K (3 mile) Breast Cancer Awareness Walk to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Jiles said this event will feature health booths on breast cancer, as well as CPR certification and a Red Cross Nursing Assistant Program.
She said while there is “no big obligation,” walkers are asked to donate $5 to walk or make donations to the cause. She said walkers should arrive no later than 11:30 a.m. for the opening ceremony. She said volunteers will be on site at 11 a.m. and the walk will begin at 12 noon.
She said this years event “is a simple fund-raiser’ for the American Cancer Society.
“We will have a booth set up for people to get information, sign up if they want to know anything about getting CPR certified,” Jiles said. “And a booth will also help promote a new Red Cross Nursing Assistant Program “in the area,” she added.
