A Thursday night fire destroyed an antebellum home built circa 1836 in Hayneville.
Lamar Hall, fire chief of the Burkville Volunteer Fire Department said the fire call went out shortly after 7 p.m. and that Burkville assisted the Hayneville Volunteer Fire Department with the fire.
He said the home located at 58 North Commerce Street was owned by Sam Gordon of Hayneville and located at 600 feet north of the intersection of Alabama Highway 21 off Alabama Highway 97.
Hall said no one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. But the home was a “total loss.” He also said the cause of the fire was not known at this time.
According to Hall, the owner said, “There was a lot of financial loss” in the fire.
