The Mosses Municipal Complex was found to be vandalized Monday with racial slurs against Mayor Walter S. Hill.
The slurs were aimed at Hill, who was indicted by a Lowndes County Grand Jury on Jan. 13 in connection with his role as former EMA director on charges of
forgery second degree, a Class C felony, and use of official position or office for personal gain, a misdemeanor.
In addition to a doll with a racial slur across the forehead, found hanging from a noose outside of town hall, the garage door of the municipal complex was spray painted with the same slur, Hill said.
Spray painted on the garage door was, “U dead n—-r Hill Mayor. We got u n—-r. Leave town.”
Hill said the town clerk discovered the graffiti Monday when she arrived at the office and called both he and the sheriff.
Hill said the vandalism is being investigated.
“That evidence, and everything describing that, was turned over to the FBI,” said Lt. G. Lashun Hutson of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
“We are offering a cash reward to anyone with information that will hwlp lead to an arrest,” Hill said.
A $500 reward is bring offered to anyone with information that will lead to the arrest of the person or persons who vandalised the Mosses Town hall with graffiti, according to Hill. Anyone with information is asked to call the Mosses Police at 563-9141 or the Lowndes County Sheriff’s investigative office at 548-2222.
The reward is being offered through the town of Mosses Crime Stopper Program, said Hill.
Hutson confirmed the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department was initially called regarding the incident.
When contacted by the Lowndes Signal, Douglas H. Astralaga of the FBI said, “The FBI can not confirm or deny the existence of a federal investigation. I can tell you however, that we take every allegation of a Civil Rights violations very seriously to ensure the public is protected from any threat.”
