MONTGOMERY– On Tuesday, Dec. 2, the Central Alabama Community Foundation (CACF) awarded more than $215,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations in Lowndes, Autauga, Elmore, Montgomery and Macon counties.
The grant money was distributed at the 27th annual CACF Grants Presentation, which was held at the First United Methodist Church in Montgomery.
The CACF is a nonprofit philanthropic foundation created by and for the people of central Alabama.
Individuals and corporate donors make gifts and bequests of any size for the better of our community.
Through the grants program, the foundation addresses a wide variety of needs and opportunities, supporting programs and projects in education, human services, health, cultural arts and other civic concerns.
The grants awarded Tuesday will specifically go toward areas of shelter, youth development, food, community building, arts, education and medical and social services.
“Several grants were awarded to nonprofits that help the community by addressing medical needs, education, hunger, and youth services. It’s a win-win for our donors, the nonprofits and the community because everyone benefits in a positive way,” said Burton Ward, president of CACF.
Organizations served in the Lowndes County area include Hospice of Montgomery, Lighthouse Counseling Center, Bridge Builders Alabama, Edmundite Missions, Montgomery Area Food Bank, Montgomery AIDS Outreach, Montgomery Cancer Wellness Foundation and Central Alabama Laubach Literacy Council.
Two of CACF’s affiliates, Autauga Area Community Foundation (AACF) and Elmore County Community Foundation (ECCF), which grant to those counties, also received $11,475 and $7,600 respectively.
This year’s presentation took place once again on the global charitable day called #GivingTuesday.
Local businesses, banks, politicians and celebrities have joined CACF in their efforts to promote giving back to the community through online donations via the CACF webpage, www.CACFinfo.org.
