Crash claims life in Lowndes County

A single-vehicle crash at 5:45 p.m. today, Aug. 12, claimed the life of a Selma man, Corporal Jess Thornton of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reports.
According to Thornton, of the Public Information/Education Unit, Calvin Drake Jr., 33, was killed when the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche he was driving left the road and overturned on U.S. 80 near Alabama Highway 97.
Thornton said, “Drake, who was not using a seat belt, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.”
The crash occurred at the 113 mile marker, Thornton said. He said nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
