The town of Gordonville saw a newly appointed mayor and a newly appointed newly appointed mayor pro tem sworn into office today (Saturday, Nov. 7).
Lowndes County Probate Judge John E. Hulett administered the oath of office to Mayor Orbuty Ozier and Mayor Pro Tem Mildred Works before a packed house at Saturday’s Gordonville Town Council meeting held at Gordonville Town Hall.
“I look forward to being mayor,” said Ozier. “And I’m mighty grateful that the constituents of Gordonville have given me this opportunity to build my home.” She said first on the agenda of activity for the town is reorganization.
“And we’re already working on purchasing land to get a grant and to build us a new town hall and sidewalks,” Ozier said. “ We’re going to get on the map.”
She said she thanked the Lord for the opportunity to serve at the current town hall location, but that it is time to move on.
Ozier explained that the late Mayor Willie Davis unfortunately had an accident and was killed. She said some of the constituents came to her and asked if she would be interested in carrying out his term.
“I had already planned to run for mayor,” Ozier said. “And due to the fact that unfortunately this happened, I just came on in and accepted the calling to get to work early.”
