Lowndes Academy Rebels advance to state at AISA Class A, Region 2 Tournament

The Lowndes Academy varsity boys basketball team joined the varsity Lady Rebels in the Elite 8 and will advance to the Alabama Independent School Association’s state basketball tournament to be played in Montgomery with a 49-37 victory over Sumter Academy in the AISA Class A, Region 2 Tournament held at Wallace State Community College on Thursday.
While the regional tournament will determine the regional championship and seeding for the AISA Class A state tournament to be held in Montgomery, the Rebels were in a win or go home situation Thursday.
The boys will play again in the regional tournament on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and the varsity girls, who had a bye Thursday, will also play in the region tournament on Friday at 4 p.m.
The regional tournament to be completed Saturday will determine the Region 2 championship and seeding for the state tournament.
The varsity boys Rebels were led in scoring against Sumter by David Hussey, who scored 22 points, and Wade Howard, who scored 15 points.
The varsity boys improved to 7-12 overall land 3-4 in regional play. The varsity girls at 5-1 in regional play and 15-4 overall.
