Central High takes Class 2-A Area 6 boys championship, Calhoun is runner-up

The Central High Lions are champions of Class 2-A Area 6 varsity boys basketball,
Behind Keno Davis, who scored 16 points, and Adrian Taylor, who scored 11 points, the Central Lions defeated the Calhoun Tigers 64-47 at home Thursday night.
Calhoun, who takes runner-up honors, “was led by Darrell Haygood with 11 points.
“I’m happy to be 2-A Area 6 champions,” said Central varsity boys head basketball coach Brian Coleman. “But,” he said, “we played kind of sloppy. We are going to have to get a whole lot better if we want to go farther in the playoffs.”
However, Coleman said, “Hats off the to the Calhoun team. They came in ready to play tonight.”
The Central Lions include Rowonn Raspberry, Keno Davis, Morris Wallace, Cornelius Taylor, Tariq Aaron, Malek Hill, Jatavius Robinson, Kentavious Dudley, Jaquez Bolling, Diamonta Johnson, Markess McGhee and Adrian Taylor.
Toriano Baker is principal and James Bibb is assistant coach for Central.
The Calhoun Tigers include Jakobe Miles, Jamichael Boone, Jeremy Morgan, Jaren Davison, Arthur Phifer, Darnell Davis, DeMarco Jiles, Quinterrious Arrington, Tyriq Whiting, Darrell Haygood, Jadarian Grant, Demetrius Smith, Jamichael Carter, Lorenzen Jones and Ladarious Maull.
Nicholas Townsend is principal, Ronald Smith is coach and coach Nikisha Hayes-Lee is assistant coach for Calhoun.
