Coming off their rivalry game against each other last Friday, both the Central Lions and the Calhoun Tigers were blanked by their opponents on the road this Friday night, Sept. 16
Central fell to Class 2A Region 3 opponent New Brockton 71-0. And Calhoun fell to non-regional opponent W.S. Neal 54-0.
Central was coming off a 54-0 trouncing of Calhoun at Central in a game that was mercifully ended by mutual agreement in the third quarter. But any momentum from that win that tied the Central/Calhoun series at 25-all, didn’t carry over.
Central head football coach Martez Graham said following the loss to New Brockton that dropped the Lions to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in regional play, “We had a poor week of practice and the loss is on me.”
With Friday’s non-regional loss to W.S. Neal, Calhoun fell to 0-5 overall.
Calhoun head football coach Bill E. Lamar said following the second 54-0 defeat in a row by his squad, “The guys put forth a good effort on the field, but we still have a lot to work on to get better.”
Central will host non-regional opponent Monroe County, and Calhoun will travel to face non-regional opponent Wilcox Central on Friday, Sept. 23.
