Rebels return to winning ways, down Wilcox Academy 46-12

Brandon Reid was a man among boys Friday night, scoring five touchdowns in Lowndes Academy’s 46-12 takedown of the Wilcox Academy Wildcats on the road.
The win improved the Rebels to 4-1 overall. But the 1-1 Rebels in Class A Region 1 Alabama Independent School Association play will host regional opponent Abbeville on Friday, Oct. 7.
In Friday’s road win over Wilcox Academy, Reid had 15 carries for 165 yards and two touchdowns. He also had two catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns. And he returned a punt for a touchdown.
On defense, Reid accounted for 12 tackles.
The Rebels’ Jon Johnson was eight of 15 passing for 225 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for one touchdown. He had three interceptions on defense.
Also for Lowndes Academy, Ford Rosser had two catches for 49 yards, Brian Rayburn had two catches for 46 yards, and Mason McCurdy had 11 tackles.
“I thought we were sloppy on offense, and played good on defense,” said Lowndes Academy head football coach Bob Taylor. “The break (last Friday) came at a good time for us, and it was good to get back on the field.”
Taylor said the Oct. 7 game at home against Abbeville is “a big game for us.” He also said, “We are excepting a big crowd.”
John Taylor opened Friday’s contest for the Rebels by kicking a 30-yard field goal to giveLowndes Academy a 3 – 0 lead.
Reid scored on an 11-yard run, and Taylor added the extra point to make it a 10 – 0 contest.
The Rebels’ Johnson then threw a screen pass to Reid for a 54-yard touchdown pass. And Rayburn hit McCurdy for the 2-point play to make the score 18-0.
Daniel Callaway blocked a punt on the next possession. And on the next play, Johnson scored on an 11-yard run. Taylor added the extra point and the Rebels led 25 – 0.
Johnson next hit Reid with a 48-yard touchdown pass. Taylor added the point after, and the Rebels led 32-0 at the half.
Reid next returned a punt 57 yards for a touchdown, and Taylor added the extra point to make the score 39-0.
Wilcox would score a touchdown and miss the extra point to make the score 39-6. But Reid would score his fifth touchdown on the night on a 81-yard run. And Taylor booted the extra point to make the score 46-6.
Wilcox Academy scored a late touchdown, but missed the extra point to make the final 46-12 in favor of Lowndes Academy.
