Lowndes wins homecoming, Central/Calhoun fall on road

In Friday, Oct. 21 Football Action:
Lowndes Academy defeated Sparta for homecoming 41-20 in a regional encounter to go 6-2, 3-2 in Class A Region 1.
Calhoun lost to New Brockton 57-0 on the road in a regional encounter to go 0-10, 0-6 in Class 2A Region 3.
Central lost to Luverne on the road 46-16 in a regional encounter to go 1-9, 1-5 in Class 2A Region 3.
The Lions scored on a safety in the first quarter. Then after being denied on four straight downs at the 1-yard-line and again at the 8-yard line, the Lions finally scored on a 2-yard run by Malek Hill set up by a 46-yard run by Jaquez Bolling.
Keegan Blackman then hit Diamonta Johnson for the 2-point conversion.
The Lions would score again in the fourth quarter on a 56-yard bomb from Frank Burke to Johnson,
Central head football coach Martez Graham said, “We let another game get away that we should have won handily. Turnovers and plain lack of focus killed us.”
