The Keith Bears hung 50 points on the Central Lions Friday night, but the Lions gave a good account of themselves by scoring 26 points of their own in their non-regional season finale on the road.
With the 50-26 loss, the Lions ended the 2016 football season with a 1-10 overall record, including a contest against Holtville that was stopped with the Lions down 10-0 in the second quarter due to lightning.
And the Lions ended the season with a Class 2A Region 3 record of 1-5. The lone regional win was a 54-0 crushing of Calhoun that evened the series between the two schools at 25 games each.
That game was ended with 6:08 left in the third quarter with Central leading 54-0 by mutual agreement according to game officials from the Central Alabama Officials Association.
While game officials and coaches has to separate the two teams, game officials said no punches were throw, it was not a fight, and no one was disqualified.
Against Keith, Central quarterback Keegan Blackman connected with Diontavious Holcombe for two touchdowns. DeAnfernee Thomas scored for the Lions from 56-yards out on a slat from Blackman. Diamonta Johnson caught a pass for a Central 2-point conversion. And then Johnson caught a 50-yard bomb from Blackman for the final Central score.
