The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office announced Saturday night that David Harold Stokes, 53, of Butler County, who was wanted for two counts of felony assault in the second degree, has been arrested.
According to Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Jeremy A. Marvin, he arrested Stokes on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 9:19 p.m. in Fort Deposit with assistance from Fort Deposit Police Chief T. Steiner.
Marvin said Stokes was arrested on two counts of felony assault in the second degree at the Fort Deposit Chevron Gas Station on Alabama Highway 185 “without incident” and was transported to the Lowndes County Jail (John Hulett Detention Facility in Hayneville) on two $10,000 bonds.
He said the Sheriff’s Office expresses thanks to all of the concerned citizens who called in and helped in locating stokes. “Without the help of the residents of our county, we would not be able to do our jobs as efficiently as we do,” Marvin said.
Prior to Stokes’ arrest, Marvin said Stokes was known to frequent Fort Deposit and Greenville. He also said prior to the arrest, “Stokes is usually armed with a shotgun in his vehicle” and, “He is to be considered armed and dangerous.”
