The Southeast Alabama Area Health Education Center (SEAAHEC) announced its newest summer program format on Friday for 10th – 12th grade high-school students in its 15-county service area, including Lowndes County.
According to Southeast Alabama AHEC, Discovery MedCamp, formerly Camp MD me, is a residential camp scheduled for July 9-14, 2017.
Community Partner, Troy University, will host students for five nights on the university’s main campus and provide travel on the Warrior bus to daily sessions at a variety of academic and health facilities throughout Southeast Alabama.
The week-long program will immerse young learners into the everchanging world of healthcare and give students insight on educational requirements for medical careers from health care professionals and upper-level students through a variety of hands-on activities.
The application is available online @ www.seaahec.org. All application steps must be completed, as outlined, before the deadline to apply on April 7, 2017, for students to be considered for the program. Limited slots are available.
Southeast Alabama AHEC is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization located in Montgomery and is one of five regional centers that, together with the Program Office, comprise the Alabama Statewide AHEC Program [ASAP]. With a mission to advance the healthcare workforce in rural communities, each Center provides local educational programs to encourage high school students to consider healthcare careers. Additional programs help to facilitate clinical training opportunities with primary care providers for post-secondary health professions students. Limited financial assistance is available.
SEAAHEC serves Autauga, Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Dale, Elmore, Geneva, Henry, Houston, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Montgomery, Pike, and Russell counties.
