Rebels remain winless in regional play, falling to Abbeville Christian 45-18 on the road

The Lowndes Academy Rebels were unable to carry over that winning feeling from homecoming to Abbeville, Friday night, Oct. 6, falling to the Generals 45-18.
The road loss drops the Rebels to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) Class A Region 1 play. And Lowndes Academy head football coach Bob Taylor would only say, “We didn’t play well tonight.”
The Rebels dominated this game statistically with 2 yards passing and a whopping 326 yards rushing for 326 yards of total offense. But the Abbeville Christian Generals used a more balanced 108 yards passing and 160 rushing to cruise to victory with 268 yards of total offense.
More importantly, where it counted, on the score board, the Generals took command of this game and kept the Rebels winless in area play this season.
Lowndes got off to a good start, scoring on a 1-yard Mason McCurdy run to take a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. But the General would outscore the Rebels 30-6 in the quarter on a 40-yard run and 2-point conversion, a 32-yard run and 2-point conversion, an 8-yard run and a 39-yard interception return and 2-point conversion.
McCurdy put the Rebels on the scoreboard again with a 5-yard run in the second quarter to make it a 30-12 contest. But the Generals upped their lead to 45-12 at the half on a 63-yard pass and a 64-yard run.
The Rebels and Generals both failed to score in the third quarter. But the Rebels would only light the scoreboard once more in fourth quarter on a 9-yard run by Landon Hooper to make it a 45-18 final in favor of the Generals.
McCurdy was two for 11 passing for a total of 2 yards passing for the Rebels while suffering three interceptions. However, he rushed 19 times for 71 yards and two touchdowns.
Also for the Rebels, Christian Barkley had five carries for 94 yards, Daniel Janes had six carries for 75 yards, Jon Johnson has 17 carries for 43 yards, and Landon Hooper had three carries for 26 yards and a touchdown.
Buddy Johnson had two tackles, six assists and one tackle for loss on defense for the Rebels while Ford Rosser had three tackles and McCurdy had two tackles and three assists. Janes nabbed one interception for the Rebels.
The Rebels didn’t do themselves any favors in this contest with 11 penalties for 70 yards while the Generals were penalized only once for 10 yards.
The Rebels return home on Friday, Oct. 13 to face Patrician in a non-regional encounter.
In other Lowndes County football action on Friday, Oct. 6, the Central High Lions took on the currently ranked number one ranked team in Class 2A Region 3 on the road and scored 32 points in a losing effort 62-34.
The Lions, 2-4 overall and 2-2 regional play are currently ranked fifth in Class 2A Region 3 and travel to play the number two ranked team in the region, Goshen on Friday, Oct. 13 for another regional contest.
