The Central Lions closed out the 2017 football season with a 30-26 loss to the Keith Bears at home on Friday, Nov. 3.
The non-regional encounter resulted in a 2-8 overall record for the Lions, who were 2-4 in 2A Region 3 play.
Central head football coach Quinn Hambrite pointed out the play of his seniors, Ma’Lek Hill, who caught a Kegan Blackman pass for a touchdown and rushed for a 2-point conversion, and David Baldwin, who caught three Blackman passes for touchdowns, in his Lions’ final outing of the year.
“I’m proud of the seniors and what they’ve accomplished,” Hambrite said. “I love to win, but this season was more about more than wins and losses.”
He said his Lions learned the game of football and their opponents are now noticing the Central High football program.
“Now we have to capitalize on that for next year and try to get wins out of the deal,” Hambrite said. “For what it was, we had a good season compared to last year, and we can only get better hence forth.”
He said, “I’m going to miss these talented seniors, and we have some serious rebuilding next year.
