The Lowndes Signal
The Lowndes Academy Rebels fell on the road in the first round of AISA Class A football playoffs to Patrician Academy 28-20 on Friday, Nov. 3.
The Rebels ended the 2017 season 1-3 in Class A Region 1 regular season play and 5-5 overall, counting the Class A playoff loss to the Saints.
Lowndes defeated Patrician 7-0 at home on Oct. 13 in what Lowndes Academy head football coach Bob Taylor called a “slobber knocker” of a game.
And Lowndes advanced to the AISA Class A football playoffs on Friday, Oct. 20 by defeating the Sparta Academy Warriors 41-8 on the road.
Taylor said of his team’s playoff loss, “All the kids played hard last night. We made (coaches/players) made too mistakes.”
While Taylor said he was disappointed in the outcome, he said of his Rebels,”All the guys played well on the season. To be able to finish 5-5 after starting the year 1-3 is a strong testimonial to the kids effort and character. Four of our five losses are to the teams still playing in the semi finals next week. I am really proud of them.”
For Lowndes in the playoff loss to the Saints, Daniel Janes got two scores on a 30-yard run and Jon Johnson kick and a 33-yard run and failed 2-point conversion. And Jon Johnson had a 16 yard run and made the extra point, as well.
