Rebels close out 2018 with 7-6 win over Wilcox Academy

The Lowndes Academy Rebels closed out the 2018 football season on Thursday, Oct. 25 with a come from behind win over non-regional opponent Wilcox Academy on the road 7-6 and a 5-5 overall record.
Not counting a preseason scrimmage win over Fort Dale Academy 27-0, the Rebels concluded the 2018 campaign 5-5, 1-4 in AISA Class AA Region 2.
The Rebels trailed the Wilcox Academy Wildcats in Thursday’s contest 6-0 from the first quarter until the fourth, giving up a 3-yard touchdown run.
But in the final stanza, Daniel Janes collected a 9-yard pass from Tyler Smith for the score, and John Morgan added the point after kick for the 7-6 victory.
The Wildcats actually put together 231 yards of total offense to 160 total yards for Lowndes. But while the Wildcats out rushed the Rebels with 165 yards on the ground to 59 yards, Lowndes out passed the Wildcats for 101 yards through the air to 66 yards for Wilcox Academy.
For Lowndes, Smith completed 10 of 17 passes for 101 yards and one touchdown.
On the ground, Trevor Haney led the Rebels with 16 carries for 63 yards.
Through the air for Lowndes, Zack Miller caught three passes for 51 yards, Janes caught three passes for 25 yards and a touchdown, and Mason McCurdy caught two passes for 17 yards.
Defensively, Gus Page led the Rebels with seven tackles including three assists; McCurdy had six tackles with five assists, one sack and three tackles for loss; Daniel Callaway had six tackles with one assist, one sack and one tackle for loss; Morgan had five tackles with two assists; Chase Little has five tackles with three assist; and Justin Hooks had four tackles with two assists, one sack and one tackle for loss.
