Lowndes County law enforcement officials are investigating the Monday night shooting death of a Letohatchee resident.
According to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a report of an individual who had been shot at 6288 U.S. Hwy. 31. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Mark Mims, 55, had been shot. Mims was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates the shooting occurred as a result of a domestic situation, according to LCSD officials. The victim’s body was turned over to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for postmortem examination.
Information from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department investigation will be forwarded to the Lowndes County Grand Jury through the District Attorney’s Office for review.
Officials said that because it is an active investigation no further details would be released at this time.
