Lowndes County Commission members are lending a hand to help Lowndes County children sing on a national stage in 2020.
Commissioners voted to give appropriations from their districts to the tune of $2,000 to help Gary White take local school choir members on the trip.
White, who is the choir director at Central High School and Hayneville Middle School spoke to the Commission about the plans.
“I have a total of 50 children and what we do is go out to different places – churches, organizations, nursing homes, senior citizen centers and perform their talent,” he said. “By doing all of this, on Spring Break, we’d like to reward them by taking them on a field trip. This year, we’re going to journey down to Orlando to Universal Studios where they will have the chance to perform on stage for worldwide viewing. I’m coming to the commissioners this morning to solicit funds to help this take place.”
The trip is scheduled to take place March 17.
“We will leave here on March 17 and any obligations that we have must be paid in full 30 days prior to our arrival,” White concluded. “The funds will go the Lowndes County Board of Education. Thank you for considering us.”
