After breaking ground in late November, the Mosses Park renovations are moving along.
The park project includes such items as playground equipment, a resurfaced basketball court, barbecue grills, benches and a walking path. The work is being completed by Southeast Demolition and Environmental Services and grants, including a Community Development Block Grant of around $150,000 and funding from the Cooperative Extension Service.
During the groundbreaking ceremonies last fall, Mosses Mayor Willie B. Hill said the work is important for the residents and Lowndes County community.
“This project will present opportunities for good health, that is, exercise for the family,” he said. “When I say the family, I’m talking about the entire family. We have new playground equipment that will be coming. We have a basketball court that will be renovated and become new. We have a pavilion that will serve as a place for people to sit and enjoy. Also we have barbecue pits, grills, benches and we will also have a walking trail.”
Hill also said he is excited about the walking trail portion of the project.
“The thing that I like about the walking trail is that it will encircle the playground equipment,” he said. “I see that as an opportunity for parents to exercise while they keep their eyes on their children. I think that’s great. We credit that to our designer (Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood and Dale Brasher, architect).”
