Area first responders on the front lines helping patients fight the coronavirus and also preventing the spread of the deadly disease by helping enforce state mandated curfews and closures have been putting in long hours over the past six weeks.

And with long hours, come empty stomachs.

One local fast food restaurant recognized that hunger and has stepped up to the plate — the dinner plate that is.

First responders that have cruised through the drive-thru at the Greenville McDonald’s since last Wednesday, April 22, have been “lovin’ it,” as their meals have been complimentary of the Golden Arches franchise. The restaurant will continue providing “Thank You Meals,” through May 5 to healthcare workers, police officers, firefighters and paramedics in appreciation for their service.

“We are proud to be able to support our neighbors who are on the front lines as first responders and healthcare workers with ‘Thank You Meals,’” Eddie Byrd, director of marketing for the local McDonald’s, said.

The following meal options are available for healthcare workers, police officers, firefighters and paramedics that
present their work badges:

Breakfast

  • A choice of an Egg McMuffin®, Chicken McGriddles® or a Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuit. All options come with any size soft drink, tea or hot coffee and a Hash Brown.

Lunch and Dinner

  • A choice of a Double Cheeseburger, 6-Piece Chicken McNuggets® or a Filet-O-Fish® will be offered. All options come with any size soft drink, tea or hot coffee and small fries.

“This is just a small token of our appreciation,” Byrd concluded as the dining area remains closed due to COVID-19.

Qualified recipients may redeem one (1) free “Thank You” meal per person, per day, upon showing their badge when ordering at participating McDonald’s restaurants.
