Alabama state troopers recently confirmed the deaths of two individuals following a crash on I-65 near the 150-mile marker in Lowndes County Tuesday morning.
According to reports, Jose L. Badillo, 50, and a 16-year-old juvenile, both of Jonesboro, Georgia, were passengers of a 2006 GMC Sierra driven by another 17-year-old youth.
At approximately 7:30 a.m., the GMC struck a tractor-trailer parked on the side of the road.
Badillo and the 16-year-old juvenile were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The 17-year-old driver was transported to a local hospital.
The crash caused traffic to be delayed and rerouted for several hours. The interstate was not reopened until the afternoon.
An investigation into the crash is currently ongoing.
