A late morning crash claimed the life of an Abbeville man Wednesday.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) reported the single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, and claimed the life of Kevin T. Guilford, 39.
the Abbeville man was fatally injured when the 2018 Volvo tractor-trailer he was driving left the roadway, struck a parked commercial vehicle and then a building before catching on fire and becoming engulfed in flames.
“Guilford was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene,” said ALEA Sergeant Jeremy Burkett. The crash occurred in Lowndes County roughly five miles West of Montgomery on U.S. Highway 80 near the 119-mile marker.
The eastbound lanes of Highway 80 were blocked by the crash and closed for about four hours afterward while responders worked to clear the scene. The road was cleared and reopened just after 4 p.m.
Troopers with the ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are investigating the cause of the crash. No further information is available at this time.
