Lowndes Academy traveled to Luverne on Jan. 9 to play Crenshaw Christian Academy. The match was the first area game of the season for Lowndes.
The Rebels pulled off the victory (65-69). Lowndes took a lead early into the game with a score of 15 to 8 at the end of the 1st quarter. The team then started pulling away in the 2nd quarter and entered half up 35 to 16.
After an exciting first half, Lowndes kept the same momentum and were up 56 to 28 at the end of the 3rd. Lowndes then began putting starters in during the 4th after being up by 30 and took the win.
“We were able to use our pressure to our advantage and we were also able to play a lot of people which helps,” Barry Mohun, Lowndes Academy varsity coach, said. “I feel like we did a good job sharing the basketball and making extra passes when we had the opportunity. Those things were very good for us in this game.”
Lowndes is on a 10-game win streak. The team has improved to 12 wins and 3 losses this season as well as 1 area win and no area losses.
Although the team came out with the win, Mohun said there are things he wants to work on for future games.
“I think we definitely need to guard better, defend better and to rebound a lot better, especially on the half court end.”
Mohun also said that he was really proud of Andrew Myers’ performance in Tuesday’s game. Myers serves as one of the team’s captains and Mohun cited that he played really well in the game.
Other leading scorers included Clayton Hussey, Zack Azar, Watters Box, and Dillan Courtney.
Lowndes also hosted Meadowview Christian Academy on Jan. 11 for their second area game.
