Lowndes County shine at EXERT competition

Students from the Lowndes County Career Technical Center participated in the Annual EXERT Youth Competition sponsored by Tuskegee University Cooperative Extension Program on Mar. 13. 

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) students under the supervision of their instructor Bridget Davis and Future Farmers of America and their instructor Kesley Thomas participated in the competition, which emphasizes Tuskegee University’s extension, education and research track (EXERT). 

Davis expressed her joy over the student’s wins and said that she commends them on the way they competed in the competition.

“The EXERT competition is a very intense competition and the students at the career center never seem to amaze me as they take on the challenge and conquer,” Davis said. “To be able to have students not only compete but place in five out of six categories is amazing. This is what I strive for as an educator and as an FBLA instructor. I am so proud of our students for rising to the challenge.” 

Each group or students participated in five of six events offered. Winners were as follows; 

Scholar Bowl

* Third place: Shamirria Rudolph, Shardajai Harris, Janyale Harris, Zaylen Burke, Aziya Flynn, and Ayala Johnson. 

Entrepreneurship

* First place: Jamaya McConnico, Cansas Hubbard, and Zaryah Flowers in Agricultural Tik Tok;

* Shandrea Robinson, Shamirria Rudolph, Terrion Gordon, Quarnelle Robinson, and Charles Robinson. 

Agricultural Arts

* First place: Gabrielle Briggins

Farm Produce Marketing Plan

* First place: Zarria McCall

Thomas said that he enjoyed watching the students prepare and was proud of the outcome at the competition. 

“This is an event we look forward to every year with the students so to see them place in their event is amazing,” Thomas said. “They worked hard for it and they deserved their wins. It’s been a joy to work with them during this school year and I’m excited to see what they will bring to the next competition.”
