Johnson voted Lowndes County Athlete of the Week

Courtney Johnson is voted Lowndes County Athlete of the Week for Week 26.
Abby Lovell is a freshman softball player for Lowndes Academy. Abby went 5-7 with three doubles in Lowndes Academy’s double header wins against Southern Academy this week. The final scores were 11-1 and 10-0. Abby is the ultimate team player with a strong work ethic.
Adriana Mason is a 10th grader at The Calhoun School and is a member of the Calhoun Girls Basketball Team and "Running Tigers" Track Team. Adriana has a very infectious personality and really cares for her schoolmates and teammates. She is also an awesome student at Calhoun. Adriana has an incredible work ethic and is always trying to improve, both, academically and athletically.

Courtney Johnson was voted Lowndes County Athlete of the Week for Week 26 on April 4. He is a senior at Central High School. He serves as pitcher for the Lions. Central’s head baseball coach, Kenny “Tiger” Rush said Johnson had 18 strikeouts in three games last week and had improved in pitching a great deal since the 2023 baseball season.
“He’s my go-to guy,” Rush said.
Johnson won this week’s award by receiving 52%, 607 out of 1,176, of the votes.
Abby Lovell from Lowndes Academy and Adriana Mason from The Calhoun School were also nominated for their athleticism and setting the standard for excellence on and off the court. Congratulations to Johnson and all the student-athletes for being nominated this week.
Athlete of the Week is made possible by the joint efforts of The Lowndes Signal and Lowndes County Public Schools Athletic Director Nickles Rankins, and through the cooperation of the coaches and administration of Central High School, Lowndes Academy, and The Calhoun School.
