Lowndes County Career Technical Center (LCCTC) students involved with the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) traveled to Mobile to compete, attend workshops and campaign for Alabama District 4 Vice President April 17 – 19. 

Bridget Davis, the center’s business administrative services instructor, thanked staff and volunteers for their support which played a vital role in the success of the students.

“We are grateful to our FBLA Advisors and chaperones for making this trip possible,” Davis said.

Students were excited to prepare for competition and present projects they worked on during the year.

“They were excited about working on projects beforehand and preparing for the event,” Davis said. “Being around other kids who are doing what they are doing gives them a different outlook on what’s going on in FBLA. It helps nurture their professionalism by requiring them to be up on time, networking, seeing different things and being around other students.”

Current vice president, Shardajai Harris, gave her farewell speech at the conference where several of her peers placed in competitions.

– Coming in third place in Business Management were Jermaine Rush, Edilberto McGirt, and Ja’Kory Robinson;

– Placing fourth in Digital Video Production was Roderious Seawright;

– The second place winner in the category of Healthcare Administration was Jordan Stringer, and earning first place was Martavius Marshall;

– Taking first place in Introduction to FBLA was Myia Porterfield, with Kendarius Mcpherson coming in second place; and

– In fourth place for Sports & Entertainment Management were Galvin Brazil and Mondrell Hill.

Lowndes County’s own Aziya Flynn was elected Alabama FBLA District 4 Vice President at the conference.

The Calhoun School students who attended the conference are junior Amiyah Giles; Hailger Johnson, Nora Lopez, Kelmaree Spagner and Kayla Timmons; sophomores Ayokunla McCall and Joshua Simmons. 

Lowndes County Schools Superintendent Samita Jeter emphasized the importance competitions have in developing student’s “real world” experience.

“[Conferences] give our students an opportunity to participate on a larger level with peers from across the state,” Jeter said. “They get a chance to present in front of judges and explain their projects. It gives them an opportunity to see what’s going on in the real world, to compete and to show what they have learned.”

The Lowndes County Career Tech Center FBLA also received awards: $500 Club for the March of Dimes, Blue Print Outstanding Award and Alabama FBLA Largest Chapter in Membership in District 4.

The group is headed to Orlando, Florida in June for the national competition.
