Lowndes County Public Schools have amped up student meal options. Cafeteria staff, students and parents are coming together to look at offerings and the collaboration has cooked up some tasty menu options like chicken alfredo, lemon-pepper pork chops and lasagna bites.
Superintendent Samita Jeter has been traveling to schools during meal time, to gauge the success of the new meal options.
“We want to ensure the quality of the food so that parents are no longer complaining about the children coming home hungry,” Jeter said. “We are making sure that what we feed the children is quality meals.”
Jeter said school cafeterias are following federal guidelines related to child nutrition.
“We’re going to follow the guidelines, but we want to make sure that kids enjoy the meals.”
