Smith voted Athlete of the Week

Tiya Smith has been voted Lowndes County Athlete of the Week for Week 2. She is a junior at The Calhoun School and the student version of a Swiss Army knife according to head coach Ervin Starr.
Tiya plays volleyball, softball and runs track for the Tigers. She is also a member of the Tiger Battalion Junior Officer Training Corps (JROTC), all while maintaining high academic standards. Starr described Smith as “an outstanding student-athlete.” She won this week’s award by receiving 51%, 191 out of 382, of the votes.
Watters Box from Lowndes Academy and Iyanis Wallace from Central High School were also nominated for their athleticism and setting the standard for excellence on and off the field. Congratulations to Box and Wallace for being nominated this week.
Athlete of the Week is made possible by the joint efforts of The Lowndes Signal and Lowndes County Public Schools Athletic Director Ervin Starr and sponsors, the Black Belt Unincorporated Wastewater Program and the Hayneville QV, as well as the cooperation of the coaches and administration of Central High School, Lowndes Academy, and The Calhoun School.
