The Fort Deposit Volunteer Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on the 200 block of Golson Road in Fort Deposit Friday evening, Sept. 27 at 10:43 p.m. Battalion Chief Brandyn Sousa arrived on scene and assumed command, finding heavy smoke and fire coming out of the Alpha and Delta side of the building
The first engine crew worked quickly to start putting out the blaze and conducted multiple searches inside the structure to make sure that no one was in the two-story building.
“When the building was uninhabitable, I told our crew to do interior operations,” Sousa said. “We moved to the defensive and requested a second engine. Sandy Ridge Volunteer Fire Department came through, bringing their engine to help us contain the blaze.”
Due to the strong winds that evening, the fire was pushed throughout the house and was difficult to contain, Sousa added. By 1:45 a.m. Saturday morning, the fire had been contained. Cause of the fire has not yet been determined and the investigation is still ongoing, Sousa said.
