A new candidate declared their intention to run for the Lowndes County Commission Saturday.

Carolyn “Nae”Harris, of Collirene, announced her intention to run as a write-in candidate for the District 2 seat currently held by Charlie King, Jr. The declaration came Oct. 12 around 3:30 p.m. via social media.

Harris was not immediately available for comment, but shared her enthusiasm for the opportunity in the post.

“I am excited to announce my candidacy as a write-in candidate for Lowndes County Commissioner, District 2,” Harris said in the announcement. “With an open mind and fresh energy, I am committed to driving positive change and fostering collaboration with all stakeholders in our community.

Lowndes County Coroner Terrell Means applauded Harris’s announcement, describing her as someone who has proven her care for the community.

“She always comes to the commission meetings,” Means said. “As a person, she’s a jewel. She has worked for the Board of Education. She’s for the people. She always lends a helping hand and is always doing things for the children.”
