Carmelo Brown has been voted Lowndes County Athlete of the Week for Week 7. He is a junior at The Calhoun School who plays football, basketball and runs track at The Calhoun School.
Around 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 12, the morning after Calhoun’s 46-0 victory over Barbour County, Brown was critically injured in a vehicle crash. He was hospitalized for head injuries but is now doing well and recovering at home.
Brown secured Athlete of the Week by capturing 52%, 92 out of 177, votes cast in the contest.
Cameron Hess from Lowndes Academy and Rakim McGhee from Central were also nominated for their athleticism and setting the standard for excellence on and off the field. Congratulations to Wilson and Gordon for being nominated this week.
Athlete of the Week is made possible by the joint efforts of The Lowndes Signal and Lowndes County Public Schools Athletic Director Ervin Starr and sponsors, the Black Belt Unincorporated Wastewater Program and the Hayneville QV, as well as the cooperation of the coaches and administration of Central High School, Lowndes Academy, and The Calhoun School.
