In a ceremony held in the Lowndes County Commissioner Chambers Wednesday, newly elected officials took their oath of office. Lowndes County District Judge Adrian Johnson administered the oath, leading commissioners as they pledged to “faithfully and honestly discharge the duties of the office.”

Commissioners Charlie King, Jr. (District 1), Fletcher Hayes (District 3) and Dickson Farrior (District 5) received their charge before a standing-room-only crowd Nov. 13 at 9 a.m. The ceremony was followed by a reception where commissioners and guests enjoyed refreshments.

Hayes, serving his first term on the commission, addressed the crowd to express his gratitude and his commitment to serve them with integrity.

“I just want to thank Almighty God,” Hayes said. “Without Him, I wouldn’t be here.

“I just believe with all my heart that He put me here for a reason. I can’t make any promises, but I can promise you this — that I will do my best. To all my aunties and all my supporters, thank you.”

Following the reception, the commission held its first official meeting of the new fiscal year.
