The Lowndes Signal has a freelance opportunity available; no experience is required. The position is open to all applicants and comes with generous benefits and compensation.
The Signal newsroom seeks individuals willing to share what makes Thanksgiving meaningful to them. There are no requirements to meet. Instead, our newsroom hopes to share the beauty of tradition and the not-so-traditional and to highlight how giving thanks can look different, but still fit within the spirit of gratitude, togetherness and community so valued among small-town residents.
Growing up, my mother’s cornbread dressing was an absolute staple. Usually prepared with chicken instead of turkey, Momma always included gravy and heaping helpings of canned cranberry sauce.
As my daughters learned to cook, I taught them how to recreate Momma’s dressing, not using precise measurements, but cooking from the heart and tasting as we went. Today, my daughter Angie’s version is the best one yet and Momma, rest her soul, is certainly smiling down from heaven each time we make it.
Is there a tradition your family observes as part of their Thanksgiving Day celebration? Do you typically work on the official holiday, but still express a spirit overflowing with thankfulness? What recipes have you and your family enjoyed for generations, and which tasty treats have family members added through the years?
Do you celebrate “Friendsgiving” with extended family?
These are just a few of the questions we ask community members to answer so that we can highlight the diversity and sense of community with which our readers give thanks each November.
We encourage you to visit our website and submit your answers to these and other questions at www.lowndessignal.com/content. You may also share information about how you give thanks on our social media page.
No monetary salary is offered for this position. Instead, applicants will experience the joy that comes with giving thanks for life’s many blessings.
Tidbits of how Lowndes County readers celebrate Thanksgiving will be featured in our next edition. Until then, we look forward to learning about the traditions, memories and gatherings that help you give thanks during the holiday season.
