The Lowndes County Career Technical Center (LCCTC) has announced its selections for Teacher and Student of the Month. The awards, announced Nov. 14, recognized teachers, career coaches and other technical center faculty along with program participants who are meeting benchmarks toward career preparedness.

Career Coach Samari Watts was selected as Teacher of the Month because of her willingness to be a “go-to” person for the center.

Center Director Shameka Baker described Watts as someone who is extremely helpful and willing to take on any task.

“She’s a doer,” Baker said. “Whatever it is that you need done, she takes care of it. She exceeds way above and beyond what is asked of her.”

For Watts, the commitment to excellence comes naturally.

“I just kind of do what I can, nothing special,” Watts said. “Whenever I can, I like to volunteer. Most of the time, I’m doing above and beyond because I love the kids. And it’s always easy to work with a team that works with you. They’ve made it easy for me.”

Watts joined the Lowndes County CTE family in July, coming onboard as the district career coach.

“She is hardworking and open to implementing new ideas into our CTE programs,” Baker said. “She is finding and incorporating innovative ways to reach our elementary and middle school, as well as our high school students, to different careers. She is currently working on how to prepare our seniors for college and developing FAFSA workshops.”

One student recognized in November is Junior Officers Training Corps (JROTC) Cadet Camille Gordon.  Nominated by her JROTC instructors, Msg. Bruce Reeves and Sfc. Michael Johnson, Gordon has shown significant leadership skills and abilities and was recognized for her dedication to the JROTC program.

Kelicia Spagner is described as a student who leads by example. She is always coaching, teaching and mentoring cadets.
