Community Foundation grant awards benefit Lowndes County

The Central Alabama Community Foundation (CACF) hosted its 2024 Social Services and Shelter Grants and Year End Reception on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at the ServisFirst Bank in Montgomery. Awards were announced for several nonprofits providing services directly to Lowndes County residents.
A $5,000 award to the Alabama Kidney Foundation will provide financial assistance to patients in Lowndes, Macon and Montgomery counties through the organization’s Daily Living Needs and Transportation Assistance programs. The Family Sunshine Center received $16,000 to provide 160 days of shelter services for nine victims of interpersonal violence who reside in Lowndes or Montgomery counties.
Another $15,000 was awarded to Impact Alabama for free vision screenings for 700 preschool-aged children enrolled in Head Start and other daycare centers in Lowndes, Macon and Montgomery Counties in partnership with Sight Savers America for 70 children who fail vision screenings. Kid One Transport also received $6,000 to support fuel costs of providing transportation to local healthcare services and specialty care in Birmingham for children and expectant mothers in Lowndes, Macon and Montgomery counties.
Mental Health America, Montgomery received $6,653 to support the cost of expanding the Friendship Club and Open Door Club programming for clients diagnosed with a serious mental illness by adding a day of participation for Lowndes County clients.
A total of $170,560.00 was awarded to central Alabama nonprofits at the event which highlighted CACF’s commitment to supporting local organizations and initiatives that make a meaningful difference in Central Alabama communities.
For over 37 years, the Central Alabama Community Foundation has been a valued community partner and resource for nonprofits and students across the River Region, the Wiregrass and East Alabama. Through the generous support of individual and corporate donors, the foundation awards over $5 million annually in grants and scholarships to address diverse community needs.
