On Friday, Dec. 13, the Lowndes County Career Technical Center (LCCTC) Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter held its induction ceremony in the gym at Central High School. The chapter installed 123 new FBLA members who received their membership certificates.
“Some were returning members, and some were new members,” said Shameka Baker, LCCTC director. “We have three advisors for FBLA: Bridget Davis, Samari Watts, our career coach and Corsheka Rich, our career preparedness teacher at Calhoun.”
Davis coordinated the program, which was led by the LCCTC officer team, with Aziya Fynn, the Alabama FBLA District 4 vice president, serving as mistress of ceremonies.
“We were also honored to have Shardajai Harris, the past 2023-2024 AL FBLA District vice president, as our guest speaker,” Davis said.
As a professional student organization, Davis explained that FBLA helps chapter members gain leadership skills, networking and avenue to practice what they learn. As an advisor, Davis said she witnesses the effect FBLA has on the participants.
“I see their growth in becoming better at being in front of people and being able to talk to people,” David said.
She has witnessed shy students coming out of their shell, becoming leaders who model leadership among their peers. The chapter elects officers each year and participants have the opportunity to run for office at the state level, too.
“Students campaign for election at the state level,” Davis said. “The last three years we have been fortunate to have someone on the state leadership team.
