The Fort Deposit Volunteer Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on the 500 block of Golson Road Monday evening, Jan. 13, 9:50 p m. Engine 2 and the rescue squad were first on scene.

Battalion Chief Brandyn Sousa was incident command.

“When we arrived on scene, the residential structure was fully engulfed,” Sousa said. “We made quick actions, so the fire won’t spread to any other structures.”

A mobile home about 30 feet away sustained some heat damage, Sousa explained.

“We made good progress due to the fifteen mile an hour winds that fanned the flames,” Sousa said.

Responders were concerned if there was anyone trapped inside the house, he added, but contact with neighbors revealed the home had been abandoned for a while.

“This was the fifth residential structure fire in the last six months,” Sousa said. These houses have been abandoned, [and] the cause of this house is still under investigation.”

According to Sousa, the fire was extinguished and contained by 12:50 a m. Sousa said his department reached out to the Sandy Ridge Fire Department in Spring Creek, from Butler County, for assistance. With a hydrant close by, the two departments were able to contain the blaze.

Anyone with information related to the fire is urged to contact the Fort Deposit Fire Department.
