The Collirene Volunteer Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle accident involving a burning vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

According to Collirene VFD Chief Willie Arnold, his department arrived at the scene on Lowndes County Road 7 and discovered a portion of the nearby wooded area ablaze and sedan on fire.

“[E-9-1-1] paged us down here for a car fire,” Arnold said. “And when we got here, the car was done burned up, and the woods were on fire.”

Volunteers extinguished the blaze, he said. The driver and passengers had already left the scene when volunteers arrived.

“So, we got out here, and had time to get the woods [fire] put out. But, we don’t have any idea.  [what happened]. We didn’t get a chance to talk to [the driver].”
