After a close first quarter, the Luverne Tigers pulled away from Calhoun on the way to a 50-8 win on Friday night in Luverne.
“Luverne is a well-coached team, and they just beat us,” said head coach Bill Williamson.
The Calhoun defense held Luverne on fourth-and-goal on Luverne’s opening drive, but the offense was unable to move the ball out of the shadow of their own endzone.
After a partially blocked punt, Luverne’s Uriah Brown returned the ball 15 yards for a touchdown, and the Tigers held a 6-0 lead after the first period.
The Luverne offense started clicking in the second quarter, and they led 31-0 at halftime.
Calhoun began having some success in the passing game as quarterback Jamarcus Davison connected with Jeffery Moss for several first downs.
Calhoun put some points on the board when a host of Tigers earned a safety with 5:49 left in the third quarter.
The passing game again proved big for Calhoun when Davison hit Jakeem Davison for a 29-yard touchdown pass with 3:03 left in the third quarter to make the score 38-8.
Luverne scored twice in the fourth quarter to seal the game.
Next week, Calhoun travels to Highland Home.
