Despite a solid effort by the Calhoun Tigers, the Highland Home Flying Squadron earned a 20-6 win on Friday night.
Jamarcus Davison scored on a 20-yard run for Calhoun to go ahead 6-0 early in the game, and the Tigers also made it inside the one-yard line only to be stopped by the HHS defense.
Highland Home took a 7-6 lead into the locker room with a touchdown in the final minute of the first half.
Midway through the third quarter, the Tigers’ defense earned a stop when a Squadron running back was deemed to have fumbled the ball before crossing the goal line, which resulted in a touchback for Calhoun.
Jamine Jordan broke a 49-yard run to the HHS 24-yard line, and the Tigers moved inside the 10-yard line.
Facing fourth and 14 to go on the HHS 15-yard line, Calhoun was stopped a yard short of the first down.
HHS responded with a touchdown, and though Calhoun threatened in the fourth quarter, an interception ended the scoring opportunity.
Highland Home added another touchdown in the last minute of the game.
“I thought they gave a good effort,” said head coach Bill Williamson. “I was proud of them.”
Next week the Tigers take on Elba.
