State Troopers arrested a Burkville man, employed by the city of Montgomery Fire Department, Friday for attempting to elude and reckless endangerment and cited him for speeding in excess of 140 miles per hour.

According to Sgt. Steve Jarrett of the Department of Public Safety, shortly after 4 p.m. Friday, a State Trooper attempted to stop a sport bike on Alabama Highway 21 in Lowndes County after observing the rider driving recklessly.

“The rider attempted to elude the Trooper for approximately eight miles,” but was apprehended by the trooper and taken into custody, Jarrett said.

“The rider was identified as James Green, 21, of Burkville,” said Jarrett, who added that Green was placed in the Lowndes County Detention Center.

He said Green was charged with attempting to elude law enforcement and reckless endangerment.

“He was issued traffic citations for speeding (140 mph in a 55 mph zone), improper passing, reckless driving and no tag,” Jarrett said.

Jarrett also said the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the pursuit.

A Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office arrest report dated Friday, May 17 confirms that James Manuel Green, 21, of Burkville is an employee of the city of Montgomery Fire Department who was arrested by Alabama State Troopers on charges of attempting to elude and reckless endangerment.

Chris Murphy, director of the Montgomery Department of Public Safety, issued a statement that Montgomery Department of Public Safety was informed by Alabama State Troopers of the arrest of a Montgomery firefighter following a pursuit.

“Montgomery Fire/Rescue immediately initiated disciplinary action and also initiated a parallel internal investigation,” Murphy said.
