Lady Rebels to play for region title Saturday

The Lowndes Academy Lady Rebels will play for the AISA Class A Region 2 championship on Saturday as the result of a 63-28 win over Sumter Academy at Wallace Community College Friday.
The Lady Rebels never trailed in this contest, leading by 41-19 at the half.
Abby Ray led the Lowndes Academy varsity girls with 25 points while Carmen Till chipped in 11 points.
With a record of 16-4 overall and 6-1 in region play, the Lowndes Academy varsity girls will play at 3 p.m. Saturday for the regional title and the top seed for the AISA Class A state tournament to be held in Montgomery.
The day did not go as well for the Lowndes Academy varsity boys.
After losing to Sparta twice in the regular season, the Rebels fell to them at the Region 2 Basketball Tournament held in Selma on Friday 64-29.
David Hussey led the Rebels with 8 points.
The Rebels fell to 7-13 and 3-5 in region play.
Because of a 49-37 win over Sumter in the tournament on Thursday, the Rebels will play in the consolation game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for the third or fourth seed in the AISA state basketball tournament.
