The Elmore Bolling Legacy Luncheon at which community awards with be given and Josephine Bolling McCall will sign and discuss her book “The Penalty For Success: My Father Was Lynched In Lowndes County, Alabama” is set for Saturday, June 18 at 1:30 p.m. at the White Hall Municipal Complex.

According to McCall, awards will be given for education, entrepreneurship (business) and citizenship and a scholarship for a graduating senior of achievement  from the Calhoun or Central.

Tickets are $15 each and will be available at most churches. Lunch will be served.

According to McCall, just weeks before Christmas 1947, when she was 5-years-old, she learned her father Elmore Bolling, 39, the father of seven was dead.

She reports he was shot six times in front and once in the back with a shotgun.

Bolling said she conducted years of research interviewing relatives and elderly Lowndes County citizens to find the answers to “many troubling questions.”

In her book, McCall said she presents convincing evidence that her father was lynched, through not hanged, mutilated or burned before a crowd of people.
